Best month for climbing in Montenegro?
May, June, September and October on the coast and crags — July and August up high in Durmitor and Prokletije.
Montenegro packs sea-level limestone and 2,000 m mountains into a tiny country, which means there is good rock to climb somewhere in almost every month — the trick is matching the area to the season.
Spring and autumn (May–June, September–October) give the best all-round conditions: cool, grippy rock on the coastal and Podgorica sport crags. In the heat of July and August, climbers move up to Durmitor and Prokletije, where altitude keeps the limestone comfortable for multi-pitch and bouldering. Winter is quiet for climbing — that is ski-touring season — though a sunny coastal wall can still be enjoyable on a mild day. Our month-by-month climbing season guide breaks it down in detail.
